How to Clean a Shower Head

Over time, shower heads can get dirty with calcium deposits, water stains, and clogged nozzles. It’s important to keep your shower head clean, as it can accumulate mildew and mold that can carry harmful bacteria if not cleaned regularly. 
 
It’s best to clean your shower head at least once a week to help maintain a healthy environment in your bathroom. Luckily, cleaning a shower head can be simple and quick, even when you’re on a busy schedule. 

Quick Shower Head Cleanse

Looking to give your showerhead a quick cleanse with little effort? Follow these easy steps for a simple way to regularly keep your shower head clean, without having to remove your shower head from the shower arm.

What You’ll Need

- A large, sturdy re-sealable plastic bag
- Rubber Band
- Distilled White Vinegar
- Old toothbrush 

Step 1: Grab a re-sealable plastic bag and distilled white vinegar. Pour about 12 oz of vinegar into the plastic bag. Add more if you have a large shower head. 
Step 2: Take the plastic bag filled with vinegar, and insert the shower head into the bag, wrapping the ends of the plastic bag around the shower arm with a rubber band until it is secure.
Step 3: Let the shower head soak in the bag of white vinegar overnight. If you need it clean right away, let it soak for at least an hour.
Step 4: Remove the plastic bag from the shower head and let the shower head run hot water for 5-10 minutes to remove the vinegar completely.
Step 5: Take an old toothbrush and scrub any remaining deposits from the shower head until it is thoroughly clean. 
Step 6: Let the shower head run water one more time to remove any remaining calcium buildup.

Deep Shower Head Cleanse

Doing some spring cleaning around the bathroom and have some extra time? Follow these steps to give your shower head a more thorough cleanse to leave it looking spotless.

What You’ll Need

- Wrench
- A small cloth or towel
- Distilled White Vinegar
- Old or unused toothbrush
- A deep bowl or pot
- Optional: Toothpick

Step 1: Remove the shower head from the shower arm. If applicable, use a wrench to unscrew the nut at the shower arm to disconnect the shower head. Make sure to wrap the nut and shower arm in a small cloth before using the wrench to protect the finish and avoid scratches
Step 2: Rinse the shower head in the sink with warm water to loosen the deposits and dirt
Step 3: Grab your bowl and fill it with distilled white vinegar. Put the shower head in the bowl and let it soak in the white vinegar overnight
Step 4: Once you let the shower head soak overnight, get a toothbrush and scrub the face of the shower head. You can also use a toothpick to make sure all of the shower nozzles are unclogged.
Step 5: Rinse the shower head with water to wash away the vinegar
Step 6: Connect your shower head back to the shower arm. Wrap a cloth around the shower arm and use the wrench over it to protect the finish of the shower head.
