American Standard Named a 2013 Green GOOD DESIGN Award Recipient
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 22, 2013) — The American Standard ICS Sink with Selectronic IC Faucet has been named a 2013 Green GOOD DESIGN by The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design.
The Green GOOD DESIGN award identifies and recognizes a number of the world’s best environmentally sound designs and aims to create public awareness of the products and firms that contribute to worldwide design innovation with a sustainable edge.
“We are honored to receive the Green GOOD DESIGN award this year for our ICS Sink with Selectronic IC Faucet design. The award recognizes products that meet at the intersection of great design and sustainable functionality and we believe the ICS Sink with Selectronic IC Faucet exemplifies these qualities," said Matt Miller, senior vice president of innovation and business development for American Standard.
Through every design element, the ICS Sink with Selectronic IC Faucet was crafted to minimize splashing and create a more hygienic environment, from the deep, sloping profile of the hand washing sink to the specially designed gooseneck faucet spout that directs the water flow to the sink’s slanted back wall and the hygienic, touchless faucet operation that eliminates contact with the faucet. American Standard-exclusive features, such as the EverClean surface that inhibits the growth of stain and odor-causing bacteria, mold and mildew on the surface, are built into the sink system for hassle-free maintenance.
"This sink system fulfills not only a utilitarian need to create a hygienic environment that minimizes splashing, but also the need to minimize the ‘institutional’ look, resulting in a clean, modern look,” Miller noted.
The American Standard ICS Sink with Selectronic IC Faucet was one of hundreds of submissions worldwide to be evaluated by members of the European Center’s International Advisory Committee for the Green GOOD DESIGN award. American Standard was also a recipient of a prior Green GOOD DESIGN award in 2012 for its sleek and water efficient Decorum FloWise Urinal.
The international jury, composed of leaders in the design industry, selected over 100 products, programs, people, government, environmental planning, and architecture as examples of green design from 18 nations. It is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious awards program for new product design and graphics. American Standard joined firms such as The Coca-Cola Company and Mercedes Benz in receiving this recognition under the Green Product Design category this year.
In conclusion, Miller stated, “This acknowledgement from The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design affirms that great design and sustainable functionality don’t have to be mutually exclusive. American Standard is proud to produce innovative products that are on the cutting edge of design and sustainable practices.”
