American Standard Awarded the 2012 Green GOOD DESIGN Award

Sep 19, 2012

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (September 19, 2012) — The American Standard DECORUM® FloWise® Urinal has been named a 2012 Green GOOD DESIGN™ by The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design.

The Green GOOD DESIGN award is an offshoot of the GOOD DESIGN program, which was founded in 1950 in Chicago by architects Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames, and Edgar Kaufmann, Jr. It remains one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious awards program for new product design and graphics. The Green GOOD DESIGN award identifies and emphasizes some of the world’s best sustainable designs and aims to create public awareness of the products and firms that contribute to worldwide design innovation with a sustainable edge.

The American Standard DECORUM FloWise Urinal was one of hundreds of submissions worldwide to be evaluated by members of the European Center’s International Advisory Committee for the Green GOOD DESIGN award.

The international jury, composed of leaders in the design industry, selected over 120 products, programs, people, government, environmental planning, and architecture as examples of Green Design from 27 nations. American Standard joins firms like Mercedes-Benz, BMW Group Design and BOSCH in receiving this recognition under the Green Product Design category in 2012.

“We are honored to be recognized with The Green GOOD DESIGN award for our DECORUM FloWise Urinal. This product was designed by our talented design and engineering teams to elevate the average urinal from a utilitarian product to an object that is beautiful in both form and function,” said James Walsh, Vice President of Product Management. “This acknowledgement from The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design affirms that great design and sustainable functionality don’t have to be mutually exclusive. American Standard is proud to produce innovative products that are on the cutting edge of design and sustainable practices.”

The DECORUM FloWise Urinal from American Standard boasts the full package: artistic design, water efficiency and low maintenance. The sleek, compact design makes it ideal for luxury commercial spaces. The high-efficiency urinal (HEU) features FloWise water-saving technology that uses only 0.5 gallons per flush (gpf), using 50 percent less water than a standard urinal. This stylish unit meets the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) WaterSense® program requirements for high performance and water efficiency.
